THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BSNL will launch 4G mobile services in select cities in the state by March 2017. This was disclosed by newly-appointed Chief General Manager (Kerala Circle) of BSNL R. Mani at a press conference here on Tuesday. Addressing a news conference, Mr Mani said 663 4G cell sites would be set up in select cities in Kerala during BSNL's Phase 8 expansion across the country for which the tenders had already been floated. So far in this fiscal, 886 new 3G cell sites had been set up and another 1,050 would be commissioned by November-December.

The CGM said the company had come up with attractive offers for customers in the landline segment. On Sundays, calls made from BSNL landline phones to any network would be free of cost. This is besides the existing offer of free night calling between 9 pm to 7 am, on all days. This facility was launched in May last year. The BSNL is also set to launch an attractive offer under which new landline customers need to pay only Rs 49 as monthly rental for the first six months.

When asked about the measures being taken to check call drops, Mr Mani said the rate of BSNL call drops was low as per Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data. The BSNL has introduced attractive data plans from August 15 onwards which include Broadband Unlimited 1091 plan offering 8 Mbps speed up to 40 GB and FTTH Unlimited 1045 plan which offers 20 Mbps seeped up to 50 GB. Another FTTH plan Unlimited 1395 offers 20 Mbps speed upto 75GB.
