Karnataka: DigiLocker to help ICSE students save marks cards
Bengaluru: Students of 2016-17 batch of the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE-Class X) and the Indian School Certificate (ISC-Class XII) need no longer worry about preserving hard copies of their marks cards, passing out certificates and migration certificates.
They can get all their academic data, including these certificates, by accessing their personalised DigiLocker accounts, which can be opened with the help of their Aadhaar numbers. In a move that is expected to help tens of thousands of students across the country, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination has joined hands with the Department of Electronics and Information Technology to protect and upload academic certificates of students on the DigiLocker cloud platform, a service launched by the central government sometime back.
All the data related to students will be available on DigiLocker with the digital signature of the issuing authority.
DigiLocker, a personal digital locker service, provides dedicated personal electronic space in a government-owned cloud storage developed by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology. The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination now becomes the first board to join hands with the department to provide the DigiLocker facility to its students.
Mr Gerry Arathoon, Chief Executive and Secretary, CISCE, said that apart from the DigiLocker facility, the students will also be given hard copies of their certificates.
Aadhaar mandatory
CISCE-affiliated schools, like CBSE and state syllabus boards, too collected Aadhaar numbers of students at the time of examination enrolment.
"It is really a great decision. The DigiLocker will be of great help as students can access the data anytime, anywhere. We wish other boards too follow suit," said Ashalatha K Prasad, a parent.
