Experts push for biometric system in schools
Hyderabad: The biometric system of attendance in schools is still a far fetched option. Some schools have installed the technology, but are not using it. School authorities say that a few teachers unions are opposing the move, saying that the machines cannot be relied on .
K. Narayan Reddy, the DEO of Warangal says, “We are yet to start the biometric system of attendance in schools on a large scale.” Schools argue that it is not possible for each child to use the biometric facility at the same time.
Educational experts claim that introducing the biometric system of attendance will provide accountability and ensure strengthening of the public educational system. Laxmi Rao, a member of save education society says, “Biometric system helps keep a check on teachers and students and ensures a less dropout rate. Moreover, safety of a child can also be assured if we know that he/she is in school during school hours rather than bunking.”
