The team responsible for the torrent search engine, IsoHunt, has made an unofficial mirror of the Kickass Torrents, the world’s biggest piracy website which was taken down by the US authorities yesterday.
The KAT mirror only features the list of torrents from Kickass Torrents but lacks site’s most strong point, its user community. It was the only torrent website to have its own community, setting it apart from other torrent portals.
IsoHunt told VentureBeat "It’s not perfect but if users need to save and archive something it’s time. We don’t know how long it can last, but at least it’s something,"
Kickass torrents was taken down by the US authorities after collecting data on the site's financial transactions and bank accounts, US officials issued an international arrest warrant for KAT's admin, Artem "tirm" Vaulin, 30, of Kharkiv, Ukraine, who was arrested yesterday in Poland.
The website is down since yesterday and its Dark Web .onion URL also stopped working after few hours. IsoHunt team has also created two petitions to get the torrent kingpin, Vaulin out of the bars.
The Change.org.petition currently has 2500 supporters, while the White House Petition requires more 99,431 signatures.
