Telangana may emerge as the first user of Google X

The government has discussed the opportunity to run a pilot project of optical fibre internet connectivity.

Hyderabad: Telangana could be the first user of Google X in India as the government has discussed the opportunity to run a pilot project of optical fibre internet connectivity. Mr Tom Moore, lead, Alphabet Google X, who participated in the WCIT 2018 held preliminary discussions with the Telan-gana government on Wednesday.

IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan said, “They are inventing something whe-re connectivity requires no wifi, no broadband no wire and is completely based on optics. Mr Moore is willing to bring that technology as test case to India”. Though the fibre optic cables are being laid as part of the T-Fibre project in parallel with the laying of Mission Bhagirtha pipelines, the government found that internet cables could not be laid at some of the places as water pipes were already laid.
The government wants Mr Moore to test Google X at such places.

Further, Mr Ranjan said, “We have asked him to showcase how this will work in the area where we have missed out. His team will work on the proposal and share it with us. So if that materialises, we will be the first users of Google X in India.”
