HTC might sell its smartphone business in the coming year

Four companies are reportedly interested in buying HTC's smartphone business.

Taiwanese company has quite visibly shifted its attention to building Google’s Pixel smartphones in the recent past. No information regarding the company developing their own smartphones have been emerging either. It’s true that HTC hasn’t been doing well when it comes to generating revenues from its smartphone business.

In times like these, a rumor emerges suggesting that the company might be selling their smartphone business as soon as 2017. According to a report by Taiwanese news agency, MyDrivers, HTC has reportedly decided to sell its mobile phone business in the spring of next year. While these news may appear convincing especially given the present circumstances that surrounds the company, the Taiwanese news agency has also reported that the company has denied these rumours.

Despite the alleged denial, there are still several analysts that claim that this is exactly what companies usually do before signing up the sale agreement (in this case, HTC and Google’s Pixel smartphones).

The report goes on to reveal that there are 4 companies that are already interested in buying HTC’s smartphone business and that one of them in from Taiwan itself.

News reporting website Softpedia speculates that Google may be among the list of companies interested in buying HTC’s smartphone business. This seems highly likely as it wouldn’t be the first time the search giant has acquired an important brand in the smartphone industry.

We will probably have to wait till next year for HTC to make an official announcement regarding its smartphone division.
