From witnessing an unprecendented change in the viewership patterns to the rise of original content and celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Imtiaz Ali and Mahesh Babu coming on-board, Indian OTT sector remains upbeat throughout the year.

2016 also witnessed with the entry of global brands in India and the home-grown brands going worldwide. With active OTT VOD subscribers slated to grow to 105 million by 2020, the industry is here to stay. What are going to be the drivers for the industry in the coming year?

YuppTV tied up with content providers like Comedy Munch, USP Studios, Nepali TV Channels etc. Thus, expanding its offerings. It further got US 50mn $ funding and also announced Mahesh Babu as its brand ambassador.

nexGTv

nexGTv expanded to 140 countries this year. It further announced the first celebrity driven original content series with Priyanka Chopra. It also launched dedicated apps for kids, Yoga, iFaith etc.

Indi.com

Indi.com is a player which has taken video platform industry to another level altogether. Backed by Actor Anil Kapoor this player entered India in April 2016. One can utilise this platform for multiple purposes like taking video auditions, throw branding challenges, hunt talent and advertising. Major tie ups like Anita Dongre, HardRock Cafe, Mohit Suri studd its portfolio.

Overall the year has been about reaping online space in the most innovative manner. These video platforms have done it just right. The space has grown at a lighting speed. Moreover now we have the giant joining in the spree. Amazon Prime who has announced 18 shows in one go and is also signing stars to come up with original series is a big push. Hence the OTT war goes on.
