YouTube to blame for those who believe Earth is flat

Google acknowledged in the past that more needs to be done when it comes to combating misinformation.

Scientists spent quite a lot of time into making the world believe that the Earth is not flat but spherical. In the modern times, YouTube is kind of undoing their hard work by giving a rise to the flat Earth believers.

Asheley Landrum, assistant professor of science communication at Texas Tech University, decided to look into the rise of flat Earth theory. She interviewed 30 people who attended a flat Earth convention and found that all but one became flat Earthers after watching videos on YouTube, Cnet reported.

The professor did not explicitly blame YouTube for the rise in flat Earth believers but did believe Google needs to do more to stop the spread of misinformation.

The search giant acknowledged in the past that more needs to be done when it comes to combating misinformation. Google has already started taking steps in this direction by reducing recommendations of content that could misinform people.

Meanwhile, Landrum is calling on scientists to use the same medium of YouTube to communicate the right information to the audience.
