Microsoft enters into marijuana business

Kind Financial will provide seed to sale' services for cannabis growers.

The Tech-giant Microsoft has announced it is partnering with a software company, Kind Financial that supports the cannabis industry, marking the first time a major company to make move towards the growing industry of legal marijuana.

A Los-Angeles based startup founded in 2013, Kind Financial will provide ‘seed to sale’ services for cannabis growers, allowing them to track inventory, navigate laws and handle transactions all through the software— running in Microsoft’s cloud, Azure.

In a statement to The Independent, a Microsoft spokesperson said that the company is supporting government customers and partners to help them their mission.

He said, ‘KIND Financial is building solutions on our government cloud to help these agencies regulate and monitor controlled substances and items, and manage compliance with jurisdictional laws and regulations.’

While, David Dinenberg, Kind’s CEO explained that no one can predict the future of cannabis legalisation, the industry will always be subject to strict oversight and regulation like alcohol and tobacco.

However, he also thanked Microsoft by saying, ‘I am delighted that Microsoft supports KIND's mission to build the backbone for cannabis compliance.’
