Micromax Alpha review: A multitasking maestro
After launching a new-age portable format, the Lapbook, with negligible on-board storage which forced the user to store everything -- data, apps, tools -- in the cloud, Micromax has gone back to the classic format of a laptop with decent hard disk storage -- 500GB.
Pre -installed with the latest Windows 10 operating system, the Micromax Alpha L135 stands out for the size of its DDR3 RAM-- 6GB. This can make all the difference to users who like to do their own version of parallel processing: downloading a heavy YouTube video, while checking mail, or working on a document, with music streaming in the background With 6GB, the chances of your screen freezing with the memory overload are very remote.
The display is a generous 15.6 inches, which ensures the keyboard is big enough for the chubby-fingered. But with the screen resolution 1366 by 768 pixels, you can't enjoy full HD enjoy movies inspite of the good screen size.
The battery promises just under 5 hours of use which is OK, though you pay the price of having a hard disk instead of solid state storage. The makers wisely offer a combo of 2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 ports plus a HDMI port, in addition to Ethernet and audio jack, plus Wi-Fi and Bluetooth -- so no complaints on the score of connectivity.
The Intel Core i3 processor-Windows 10 combo helps for a speedy startup and shutdown. At 2.1 kg, this is not too weighty — nor is the asking price of Rs 26,990.
