Indian group makes ink from air pollution
We, humans have been dependent on fossil fuels for the longest time possible. Research shows that many premature deaths are directly related to soot, which is a by-product of burning of fossil fuels. Depending upon the engine and environmental variables, about 80-90 per cent content in automotive PM is carbon based. This is what Air Ink, the brainchild of an Indian collective called Graviky Labs targets.
Each pen they manufacture contains between 30-50 minutes of air pollution generated by car exhaust. In collaboration with Tiger, Air Ink strives towards arresting the vehicular, environmental soot in a way that it doesn’t reach our lungs. Calling it the ‘Art of Pollution,’ their website states, ‘The Pollutants which could have been in the lungs of millions of people are now beautifully resting as art.’
This idea was first presented at the 2013 INK conference. After which, Graviky Labs invested time and resources into their own research to make their vision possible. It is presently under certification process, but once they receive the same, they should begin the production of pens for commercial use.
