Facebook to fix its too cluttered Messenger app

Facebook's David Marcus acknowledges that the app became too cluttered.

Facebook introduced its standalone Messenger app a few years ago. The company started adding features by still keeping the chatting experience intact. Some of those features are worthy add-ons like video chat and file sharing. Others aren’t that great, especially the ad spam that have been reported recently.

The head of Facebook messenger, David Marcus has recently acknowledged that the app has been too cluttered and needs to be improved. In a blog, he mentioned this issue as “Over the last two years, we built a lot of capabilities to find the features that continue to set us apart. A lot of them have found their product market fit; some haven’t. While we raced to build these new features, the app became too cluttered. Expect to see us invest in massively simplifying and streamlining Messenger this year.”

Though the post doesn’t mention what major changes are to be rolled out, we can hope that the Messenger gets rid of the current bloatware. Facebook says Group chats in the standalone Messenger app can also be improved for better file sharing.
