WhatsApp loses to Hangouts with group chat invite links

Hangouts brings a new feature to create and share invite links to group chats

Google has silently added a feature to its Hangouts app which will allow users to create and share a link to any group conversation. The feature was first rumoured to come on the popular messaging app, WhatsApp.

Well this will be the first instance, where Google Hangouts has taken a lead over Whatsapp. Hangouts also wordlessly enabled video messaging and removed merged SMS.

Users can check weather the new feature is available for them by going to the ‘People and options’ setting in a group chat. Users will find a toggle to enable the ‘Joining by link’ and an option to share the link to other apps.

The new feature will allow users to invite other people to their conversations without adding them to their Hangouts contacts list first. However, there has to be some source of contact to share the link with other user.

WhatsApp was reported to be working on letting users print group conversation links as QR codes making it more accessible to the people, users cannot contact through their phones.

If the new feature isn’t available for you on the Play Store, the Hangouts 11 can be downloaded from APK Mirror. The update may soon be rolled out for everyone to use.
