People who have been users of Facebook are aware that the world’s largest social media giant collects data about them for corporate research purposes to drive business growth.
In addition to that, new reports have emerged pointing out that it now wants to access your thoughts and feelings, as per a report in The Telegraph.
In a recent interview the Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg said that online sharing will eventually surpass any video or virtual reality experience, and broaden into people posting their thoughts and emotions.
During a Facebook Q&A session, Zuckerberg said there is a world that surpasses VR and the ability to capture what is going on in a scene. “I think you’re going to be able to capture a thought, what you’re thinking or feeling, in its kind of ideal and perfect form in your head and be able to share that with the world,” he said during the Q&A session.
Expressing that thought sharing is a sensitive issue and people should have complete power to drive it, he said that people should be empowered with the capability of sharing a thought they want to with other people.
While the technology discussed by Zuckerberg sounds nothing less than a scenario from a science fiction movie, he said that currently they have no plans on working on it but a possibility may arise in future.
He mentioned that there are on-going researches being conducted where scientists were able to ascertain what people were thinking on based on MRI scans.
Although Zuckerberg has denied allegations, there is a possibility that the company maybe working on such a technology as it isn’t the first time he has touched upon topics related to mind reading, telepathy and thought sharing.
Moreover, Facebook itself acknowledges that it collects user data for research purposes. Connecting the dots do point at such researches being carried on currently by the company.
Giving a clear hint, Zuckerberg said that it would be great if such a technology could be devised in the future and the ability to share a pure thought or a feeling in way users want can be disruptive. “50 years from now, that might not be a crazy thing to think about,” he said,” he concluded.
