12 Facebook features that you probably never knew

If you are an intense Facebook user, you should already know about these features.

Facebook is ‘the’ social networking platform that is most commonly used by almost 90 per cent of those who are using the internet. Almost everyone we know of, cannot start their day, or even end it, without scrolling through their Facebook timeline. We must say that Facebook is also a known addiction in this era. But though many use Facebook for personal or business use, how many of them know about all the features it contains? From security to simple fun, Facebook has a few too many features, and many are neither used nor known. Here are 10 such features that Facebook contains, which you probably never knew about.

  1. Poking friends has already been used before and is rarely used today. The reason—you already know that the person is online each day and will read your messages anyways. However, though the feature still exists, it has been tucked aside for being rarely used. Click on your friend’s profile page, hit on the ellipses (...) seen next to the message tab and click on ‘poke’. It still functions the way it did.
  2. Your Facebook has an inbox too. You probably knew that it does, but sadly, Facebook does not alert you about the messages that are in it. This message section filters messages each time they arrive, but the ones that are not (probably) important are not alerted to you instantly. Most of these messages are hidden, and many-a-times, you tend to lose out on a few important ones. We noticed that we too lost out some important alerts from almost 3 years ago. To check out your messages, click on the ‘Messages’ icon and then click on ‘Message Requests’. Then click on ‘See filtered requests’ and you will find that many messages that were set to you were not even alerted.
  3. Facebook Messenger allows you to play Chess! Yes if you did not know that, you can play chess with your friends online by simply sending a message ‘@fbchess’ when in a conversation. Try it out yourself. You can also play basketball in Facebook Messenger. It’s simple—to play, simply send a basketball emoji to your friend as a message and start the game.
  4. Facebook Messenger can save your files in Dropbox too. If you have Dropbox on your phone, you can use the cloud service to send and receive files from the cloud. If installed, click on ‘More’ and you should see Dropbox option included in it.
  5. Logged on to another computer to use Facebook but forgot to log off? Scary situation, isn’t it? Someone could use your open account to post on your behalf. Well, fear not as Facebook has you covered on that issue. Simply head on to your desktop, hit the Facebook website, and click on ‘Security’. Head on to ‘Where you’re logged in’ and click on the ‘End activity’ from the list given there.
  6. Discretely unfriend your contacts by simply ‘unfollowing’ them instead. Just click the ‘Following’ button on their profile page and you will no longer see any posts from them. However, you can see what they are posting by creeping on them from their profile page.
  7. Set your Facebook’s language to another one. It’s simple—head to ‘settings’ nad then to ‘Language’ and click on ‘Edit’. Choose the language option from there and then save the changes. What’s surprising is the Facebook has also included languages such as ‘English Pirate’ and ‘English Upside Down’ in the list.
  8. Facebook allows you to read posts later too. If you find an interesting post and choose to see it later, you will never find it as it has sunk deep into your timeline. Well, you can save the posts to read later by simply clicking on the right corner of the post and hitting ‘Save link’. The posts will be saved in the ‘Saved Folder’ for you to view them later.
  9. If you are in a relationship, or married, Facebook will show you all you photos, statuses and posts where you two were tagged in it. Click on the link ‘
    www.facebook.com/us
‘ and you will see your ‘Facebook’ relationship with your better half.
  10. You can make free voice calls to any country, albeit over the internet only. Facebook had also introduced the internet calling service in the Messenger app. In the Messenger app, click on the contact you need to talk to and hit the phone handset icon.
  11. Send your location to your friend who is searching for your address or meeting point. Similar to WhatsApp, you can send you present location by clicking on the ellipse (...) on the top corner and selecting ‘location’.
  12. Facebook partnered with various online retailers, which allows Facebook users interact with online sellers on the Messenger. Find out when is the next sale or simply ask them what’s on the list.
