Visakhapatnam: The ambitious plans to use drones extensively in soil testing will take shape after the state government holds a discussion with philanthropist Bill Gates on November 17 in the city.
The government will tie up with the ‘Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’ (BMGF) to launch the ambitious project to assess the conditions of the soil.
During the blockchain conference held in the city recently, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the drone technology will help to carry out the soil testing in real time and there was no need to extensively depend on laboratories.
A similar plan implemented by the BMGF in the US, South Africa and some other countries, has led to a marked improvement in agricultural activity as well as sowing of seeds.
Experts from the BMGF and other agencies will take images of the soil across the State and extrapolate it with soil sample data to make appropriate recommendations to the farmers.
