Google adds 'fact-check' label in Google News
The fact-check' label will help reader fact checking in large news stories.
Google has introduced a new ‘fact-check’ tag to help readers find fact checking in large news stories. Fact-Check will now be joining the existing new tags like ‘opinion,’ ‘in-depth’ and ‘highly cited.’
Users can find the tagged articles in the expanded story box on news.google.com and in the Google ‘News and Weather’ available on iOS and Android platforms. However, the feature will first be rolled out in the US and UK, while other countries may see within a few days.
In a blogpost Google explained that they will determine whether an article contains fact checks in part by looking for the schema.org ClaimReview markup. They will also look for sites that follow the commonly accepted criteria for fact checks.
