Google may reveal Android O's official name on 21 August

Google is expected to announce the name of Android O on 21 August, the day of the solar eclipse.

Google announced its latest Android O software upgrade at its 2017 I/O conference. The search-giant since then, has been releasing developer previews of its update; without providing any details regarding what it will be officially called or when it will be rolled out in its full-fledged, final form. The official name of Google’s next mobile operating system might be announced on August 21, according to tweets by Android Police's David Ruddock.

The latest operating system consists of several exciting features, including Notification Dots, Picture-in-Picture, Auto-fill and Smart Text Selection. While the Notification Dots feature pops up notifications after a long-press, the Auto-fill feature helps in filling forms inside an app. Meanwhile, the Smart Selection feature is a machine-learning system that selects only the important text to be copied. The latest update also comes equipped with multiple improved security features, and an increase booting speed. There is another feature called Copy Less which makes it easier to copy and paste in Android O by employing machine learning and computer vision.

When Android O officially rolls out, Google’s Pixel and Nexus smartphones will be the first in line to receive the update. The company will also seed the update to other OEM’s, who have already begun preparing the update with their custom skins and overlays.
