US soldier fighting ISIS in Iraq plays Pokemon Go on front

The US soldier fighting in Iraq challenges ISIS to pokemon battle.

A former US marine fighting against Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq has gathered interest in the insanely going viral game, the Pokemon Go. Louis Park, 26, had posted a screenshot of him playing the game, on his Facebook profile, which showed a Squirtle Pokemon ready to be caught, next to his machine gun resting on a box of ammo.

He posted the screenshot with a caption, ‘Just caught my first pokémon on the Mosul front line by Teleskuf. Daesh, come challenge me to a pokémon battle. Mortars are for puss**s.’

However, Louis Park seems to have deleted the post, but The Verge managed to capture a screenshot of his post.

Pokemon Go

On the front line there are a limited number of Pokemons to catch, but Dohuk (a town in Kurdistan in northern Iraq) has gyms, Pokestops and everything, he said.

He had downloaded the game while on a visit to the US.

In an interview with The Verge he said, ‘I saw my friends playing it back home, so I just downloaded it.’

‘Most of the days are boring. You kind of sit there and you guard your post and stand by in case anything happens. The ISIS shoots mortars just about every other day, but we've only had a couple of actual attacks,’ he added.
