Microsoft's Fluent Design Language enhances Windows 10 appearance

The new design philosophy will overhaul Windows 10 in the Fall Creators Update.

Microsoft in its Developer Conference unveiled a lot of products and new visions to keep the company’s bank accounts full. In the midst of Mixed reality devices and cloud computing services, Microsoft showed off its future plans for one of its primary products that are responsible for making Microsoft what it is today – the Windows OS. Their latest Windows 10 is about to get a major overhaul in the fall of 2017.

Termed by Microsoft as the Fluent Design Language, the new design theme aims to make Windows 10 a pleasant experience rather than solely a productivity oriented OS. The new design language focuses on five core parameters to make creative and engaging user interfaces – depth, material, light, scale and motion.

Individual apps on Windows 10 will get an overhauled look following the design theme. In the second Creators Update later in the year, the OS will incorporate those design changes and animations in the system to provide an OS that looks and feels modern.

Until now, Windows 10 was continuing a tweaked version of the Windows 98 layout. There was no major change to the File Explorer in Windows over the past versions of the OS. Even with Windows 10’s new UI, Microsoft had based on the old tried and tested layout of the previous iterations of Windows. With the new design language, Windows 10 will compete with macOS, ChromeOS and other PC operating systems for a modern desktop software.

Microsoft has already started implementing part of its new design language in the Photos app of the Windows 10. Over the period of few months, we could be experiencing other Windows apps getting the new design treatment until the Fall Creators Update rolls out.
