YouTube's Super Chat allows users to monetise live streams
YouTube is among the most popularly used video-viewing platform. There are many users who have shot to fame, thanks to the service. The company essentially generates revenue from advertisements through Google AdSense, a program which targets ads according to the site content and audience. Now the video-sharing/viewing service has announced a new feature that is aimed at helping creators monetise live streams.
“Today, we are introducing our latest tool for fans and creators to connect with one another during live streams: Super Chat,” the company posted on January 12. “Anybody watching a live stream can purchase a Super Chat: a highlighted message in the chat stream that stands out from the crowd to get even more of your favorite creator’s attention. And Super Chats remain pinned to the top of chat for up to 5 hours, giving more airtime for your messages,” they added.
The latest feature will remain pinned on top of the chat for up to five hours. Creators will benefit from the feature by connecting with their fans and also generating revenue from their videos.
YouTube is also debuting an API that will replace the Fan Funding API, which will allow developers to access real-time purchase data from the system.
