Tamil Nadu: Mobile command and control station for UAVs inaugurated

Chennai: For the first time in the country, the Centre for Aerospace Research on MIT campus of Anna University has developed mobile command and control station for unmanned aerial vehicles which can be deployed during the emergency and disaster situations.

Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palanisami launched the command station here on Thursday. “This command station can be deployed during the emergency times as it can function up to three days without any power and communication lines,” the state government release said.

Right now, UAVs are being used for various purposes including to control the traffic and crowd monitoring in big gatherings and also to prevent the floods during the monsoon. The UAVs are used in places like Sabarimala during the Makara Jyothi to prevent events like the stampede.

The Centre for Aerospace Research on MIT campus of Anna University has developed over 10 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) which are being used for various purposes. Higher Education minister K.P. Anbalagan, Higher education secretary Sunil Paliwal and Centre for Aerospace Research director K.Senthilkumar also participated in the event.
