Samsung launches A9, world's first smartphone with four rear cameras

Post Huawei's triple camera P20 Pro, Samsung showed off its prowess with the Galaxy A9.

At an event held in Malaysia, Samsung Electronics announced the Galaxy A9, a smartphone built for those who love to explore, capture the moment and share it as they see it. Post Huawei’s triple camera setup on the P20 Pro, Samsung showed off its prowess by launching the Galaxy A9 with four cameras for a more DSLR-like imaging.

The Galaxy A9 allows you to capture photos effortlessly with its 24MP f/1.7 main camera on the rear. It also has a 10MP f/2.4 sensor with a 2x optical zoom feature, an ultra wide 120-degree 8MP f/2.4 lens and a 5MP sensor (f/2.2) for depth. Up front is a 24MP f/2.0 camera for selfies. Using all four cameras, one can obtain professional shots with Scene Optimizer. AI Scene Recognition is baked in to identify the subject and adjust settings accordingly for the best photo. With Depth Lens, you can manually manage the photos’ depth of field and focus on the subject.

As for the display, the A9 boasts of a 6.3-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED with a resolution of 1080×2220 pixels. Below the hood, the A9 is powered by an Exynos chipset featuring octa-core processors (2.2GHz quad + 1.8GHz quad) and clubbed with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The Galaxy A9 comes shipped with Android Oreo 8.0 out of the box. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi dual band 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C and NFC. Fingerprint sensor and face unlock are the biometrics involved for security, apart from Knox. Lastly, the A9 is fuelled by a 3,800mAh battery and is available in three colors — Caviar Black, Lemonade Blue and Bubblegum Pink and sports a 3D Glass curved back, starting November 2018. Prices are yet to be announced and models and prices will vary in different international market.
