Snapchat may be working on secret Google glass like hardware: report

The company 'silently' started off a couple of years earlier when Snapchat acquired Vengence Labs.

Mumbai: Citing Snapchat’s recent acquisitions, numerous speculations have surfaced, indicating that the company is working on a Google-Glass type hardware, reported Business Insider.

According to the report, the instant image-sharing app has recently acquired two hardware specialists from US-based dynamic camera manufacturer GoPRo; one of them is a mechanical engineer while the other individual previously worked as a technical recruiter for Google’s Project Aura.

Apart from confirmation regarding a secret hardware product given by an internal source, the company as made new acquisitions including eye-wear designer Lauryn Morris and Hollywood special effects master artist Raffael Dickreuter.

As per reports, the company ‘silently’ started off a couple of years earlier when Snapchat acquired Vengence Labs, a start-up that manufactures Google-Glass like eyewear that records video, for approximately $15 million. Further evidence surfaced in 2015 when the company started building Snapchat Research for machine and vision learning.

While Google Glass couldn’t make a considerable impact due to its unrealistic design and ‘negative publicity’ it received ahead of the final release.

However, when CEO Evan Spiegel was asked in 2013 if he would want similar equipment for Snapchatters, he said that the company would be willing to explore the field.

Well, reports now claim that Smapchats team ‘secret hardware’ team is complete with notable members on board and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the introduction of a Google-glass like picture that would allow people to click pictures and videos seamlessly.
