Bluetooth 5 to come with 2x more range and 4x better speed
The next generation of Bluetooth, Bluetooth 5 is all ready to be announced next week, sporting double the range and quadruple the speed of the current low energy Bluetooth transmissions.
The news came into light via a published email by Mark Powell, executive director of Bluetooth Special Interest Group.
The Bluetooth SIG also revealed that the upgrade will offer a wider support for home devices enhanced IOT functionality. In addition, the upgrade will also offer support for connectionless services, like beacons that will provide navigation assistance to the users.
Tech giants like Apple, Intel and Microsoft, which back the SIG, will officially release the Bluetooth 5 on June 16 in London.
However, it is still unclear whether the Bluetooth 5 will come to existing devices as a firmware update or require new hardware.
It remains to be seen how Bluetooth SIG will implement it for the devices.
