Battlefield: Get ready to battle it out

Battlefield 1 will have more open areas in the single-player campaign.

Electronic Arts has confirmed the name and release date of the next main Battlefield game. Set during World War 1, Battlefield 1 will launch on October 21 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and on PC via Origin. Just like Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, it will be the first current generation Battlefield game not to release on the previous generation consoles.

DICE has promised that while the game feels fresh, they will maintain the USP of large scale battles with support for up to 64 players. Players will utilise setting appropriate weapons such as bolt-action rifles, flamethrowers, artillery and mustard gas. Land and air vehicles will consist of different types of tanks, biplanes and battleships.

More interestingly, tanks will be going up against horses as players are required to adapt to this new style. The game will have more open areas in the single-player campaign and players will fight through a variety of locations. As with every EA game, members of EA Access and Origin Access on Xbox One and PC, will be able to play the game for a limited time before launch. They will also receive a 10 per cent discount upon purchasing the game digitally on Xbox Live or on Origin.

As Titanfall 2 is expected next year; Battlefield and Call of Duty will once again go head to head, with both games going in different directions from their modern military pasts. The online community has been very vocal with their support in the matter with Battlefield 1 quickly becoming the most liked video game trailer in history while Call of Duty Infinite Warfare has become the most disliked videogame trailer in YouTube history.
