Apple's next flagship iPad to gain full-screen display, FaceID

The next generation iPad will have three models, with top-of-the-line model flaunting an iPhone X-esque display and FaceID.

Apple’s iPad is unarguably the best tablet computer one can buy in the market today. Whether it be watching videos or sketching professional designs or even making long word documents, the iPad simply handles everything with ease. This year’s iPhone X introduced next-gen features to the iPhone lineup and it now seems that Apple will do the same for next year’s iPad as well.

If we are to believe Bloomberg’s report, then Apple could be launching an all-new premium model in its next year’s iPad lineup. The new model is expected to lead the iPad Pro lineup by borrowing some of the showstopper features from the iPhone X. Yes, the iPad will be ditching its fat bezels and go for a fullscreen display with extremely narrow bezels. That also means it will have to ditch the home button and settle for the new FaceID biometric verification.

The report mentions that this premium iPad will have a display size similar to that of the current 10.5-inch iPad Pro. Apple will try to maximise the screen size by opting for the iPhone X inspired display. However, it is highly doubtful that the iPhone X’s OLED display could make it to the iPad lineup. The worldwide demand for OLED displays has shot up as more hardware manufacturers are opting for this display technology. It will, therefore, be difficult to mass produce massive OLED panels for the iPad. That said, the current iPad Pro’s LCD display is one of the best we have ever seen on a tablet.

There are also many other points that Apple needs to address with this rumoured fullscreen iPad. Will Apple use an all-glass body to incorporate wireless charging on the iPad? Will Apple include a dual camera setup on this iPad? Will the infamous iPhone X’s notch make it to this iPad or Apple will find a new way to implement that? Will the fullscreen display affect the iPad’s practicality? We might have to wait for these answers as the launch date for this one draws close.
