Faraday Future's 1000bhp electric vehicle concept

The new concept will face its rivals in the electric segment like Tesla

Faraday Future’s vision of tomorrow is more bonkers than we had thought. There were a long list of possible outtakes but Faraday has come out with the Faraday Future FFZERO1 concept — fully electric, single-seater supercar with no doors visible.

The California startup teases that “if developed for limited production,” the FFZERO1 might have more than 1000 horsepower, a top speed of more than 320kmph, and a zero-to-100 time of less than three seconds.

However, this is just a concept as of now. Specs are pretty impressive though and might make it to the final production design. The concept packs autonomous driving and the batteries to power the car is centrally located below the floor of the concept. The whole car sits on a platform called as Variable Platform Architecture (VPA).

The key to an intuitive user experience (UX) is an intelligent user interface (UI). Faraday’s FFZERO1 UI visualizes vehicle velocity and the flow of data both to and from the system. The concept also has smartphone connectivity — direct connection to the smartphone which allows for real-time data visualization and interaction. Used separately, the smartphone app enables remote setup, customized vehicle configurations, and adjustable power outputs.

Exterior is aerodynamic as it can be coupled with an integrated tailfin which keeps the vehicle stable at high speeds, aero tunnels to reduce the drag and a carbon fiber shell to make it super light and fast. Also another addition to this hypercar is the Zero Gravity Driving position — inspired by NASA’s design. The driver’s seat offers a true sense of weightlessness. Using the underlying carbon-fiber framework, every contour of this stress-reducing seat provides optimal support for the driver.

The chassis is based on a universal modular structure — known as Variable Platform Architecture. The batteries are stacked in a linear fashion running through the length of the car. The battery blocks are assembled into groups of six and arranged into stings. By adding or removing a battery string, the vehicle’s size, shape, weight, power output, and travel range.

The VPA platform is one of the new inventions which can be easily altered to make vehicles of different shapes. Or one can say, one platform, endless possibilities. Faraday Future says, “We are starting with a clean slate, and are more able to tackle challenges like autonomous driving and battery range with a novel, uninhibited approach. Instead of attempting to retrofit existing products and outmoded practises to the task at hand, we face it head on with original concepts and new technologies.”
