Isro launches Sounding Rocket on the occasion of World Space Week

Sounding rockets are one or two stage solid propellant rockets used for probing the upper atmospheric regions and for space research

Nellore: The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) has launched a sounding rocket for demonstration purpose on the occasion of World Space Week from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, on Monday much to the delight of nearly 500 students studying in different schools in and around Sullurpeta.

The students were brought to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre to participate in the valedictory function of the World Space Week.

Isro has developed a series of sounding rockets called Rohini series, important among them being RH-200, RH-300 and RH-560, number in the name indicating the diameter of the rocket in mm.

Sounding rockets are one or two stage solid propellant rockets used for probing the upper atmospheric regions and for space research.

The Sounding Rocket RS-360 was launched on Monday purely for demonstration purpose, Shar officials said.

Meanwhile, Director of IIT, Tirupati, Dr K.N. Satyanarayana took part in the valedictory function of World Space Week held at MR Kurup Auditorium in Shar.

He along with Shar director A. Rajarajan distributed prizes to the students who won in different competitions conducted on the occasion of World Space Week.
