Apple Watch vulnerable to Russian hacking, banned in UK Cabinet

Ministers have been barred from wearing Apple Watches during Cabinets meetings.

Apple Watch has been banned from UK Cabinet meeting following a report that the watch’s microphone could be hacked by Russian spies to listen to the high-level policy discussions that take place during meetings.

According to a report published by The Telegraph, “Under David Cameron, several cabinet ministers wore the smart watches, including Michael Gove, the former Justice Secretary. However, under Theresa May ministers have been barred from wearing them amid concerns that they could be used by hackers as listening devices.”

In fact, The Sydney Morning Herald reported today that Apple Watch has been banned from Australian Cabinet meetings as well. “It has long been standard practice, on both sides of politics, that no electronic transmitting devices, including Apple Watches, be allowed in the cabinet room,” a spokesman for Cabinet Secretary Arthur Sinodinos said in the report.
