The new feature is available in the latest preview of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. It can be seen on the lock screen alongside the sign-in options link. Microsoft has designed the whole process to be intuitive, once users click on the option that reads “I forgot my password,” they are provided with a wizard guiding them throughout the entire process, with Cortana asking for password recovery information, including secondary email, phone number, or Microsoft Authenticator verification code.
Once the user provides these details, the verification process is complete and Microsoft allows the user to choose a new account password, letting them log in to their Windows 10 device.
The feature is expected to be available to all users with the launch of Fall Creators Update in September this year. Earlier, it was pretty much impossible to log in to the desktop without knowing the password and another device connected to the Internet around.
The Fall Creators Update is almost finalised, which means most of the new features have already been shipped and the upcoming updates would be focused on fixing bugs.
