Apple WWDC 2017: When, where and what to expect

Apple is expected to unveil the latest version of macOS and iOS, and updates to watchOS and tvOS.

Apple has begun sending out invitation to its Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC), noting that the keynote address will kick off on June 5 at the McEnery Convention Centre in San Jose, California.

The four-day keynote event will commence at 10 a.m. Pacific on June 5 and will last till June 9.

The original WWDC invites send to out to developers reads, “Technology alone is not enough. Technology must intersect with the liberal arts and the humanities, to create new ideas and experiences that push society forward. This summer we bring together thousands of brilliant minds representing many diverse perspectives, passions, and talents to help us change the world,” reported CNBC.

Every year Apple host the event inviting millions of developers across the globe to learn about a range of Apple’s new platform technologies involving programming languages like Swipe to breakthrough developers APIs like SiriKit, HomeKit, HealthKit and CarPlay and inspires them to continue creating or make improvements.

This year’s developer's conference is the 28th WWDC and the description on invitations send out to developers this time suggests Apple seeks to infuse more human element into new technology.

The Cupertino-based tech giant could point to augmented reality, which the firm has embarked as an important bid to dominate the next generation of gadgetry and keep people wedded to the ecosystem.

As previously reported Apple is working on AR products and AR feature to incorporate in the iPhone sooner. It has also hired veterans from the National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) to ramp up its efforts.

Or perhaps we’ll hear about smarter version of Siri -- a smart speaker which will operate on Apple digital voice assistant Siri.

“We believe there is an over 50 per cent chance that Apple will announce its first home AI product at WWDC in June and start selling in the second half of 2017 in order to compete with the new Amazon Echo models to be launched,” said analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities.

According to Kuo, the smart speaker will have “excellent acoustics performance” from one woofer and seven tweeters and computing powers similar to iPhone 6/6s AP. The device would be positioned for the “high-end market,” “better entertainment experience” and could cost “higher” than Amazon Echo, that is, more than $179.

If Apple brings in the smart speaker, it is speculated to serve a tough competition to the already established products like Amazon Echo in home assistants market.

Other than this, Apple is also expected to unveil its latest product software during the keynote, including iOS 11, the latest version of macOS, and updates to watchOS and tvOS.

Apple sometimes does use the platform to unveil some of its hardware products too. Rumours suggest Apple might launch a new 10.5-inch iPad, a refreshed version of iPad Pro and updated MacBook Pro computers. However, that’s rare. If not that, the keynote event will definitely give a glimpse on how people are going to use iPhones, iPads, and watches in the months and years to come.
