Now, app to help accident victims
Kochi: In a novel initiative, the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) has rolled out a mobile application – ‘Safe Savari’, that would provide information on basic road safety practices and first aid measures in case of mishaps. “The app helps users on how to react to specific issues of road safety such as mishaps, distracted driving and indications of vehicle technical flaws. It could also be used to get emergency assistance to mishap victims under the ‘Platinum 10 minutes’ initiative and thus save their lives. For this a group of volunteers who are ready for provide ‘two-wheeler ambulance’ have been registered with us,” said V.S. Sanjay Kumar, senior scientist, NATPAC.
So far the campaign was for ‘Golden Hour’ -- the initial critical moments when mishaps victim should be taken to hospital. However, care should also be taken not to further aggravate their injuries especially spinal and head injuries. The app will give tips on how to take care of such victims besides availing the service of volunteers. “To woo children, we’ve included 25 short films providing road safety tips, including 15 animation films lasting 50 to 55 seconds. Two-wheeler accidents form 35 per cent of the total mishaps and the drivers mainly fall in the age category of 25-40,” the official said. The android app can be downloaded from the ‘Google Play Store’.
