Apple's first-ever AR headset to go into production later this year

The first-ever Apple AR glasses or headset will require the use of iPhone for functioning.

It is well known that Apple is enthusiastic about the new-age Augmented Reality (AR) technology. So far, Apple’s efforts in the AR field have only been visible through the ARKit apps.

Apple researcher Ming-Chi Kuo has now estimated that the iPhone maker will release its first AR hardware, a dedicated headset, which will be mass manufactured between the fourth quarter of this year and the second quarter of 2020, 9to5Mac reports.

Kuo indicates that the first-ever Apple AR glasses or headset will require the use of iPhone for functioning, pretty much similar to the early versions of the Google Cardboard which requires one to snap on an Android device inside the headset for the immersive experience.

In Apple’s case, the purported AR glasses will act only as a display, while the core tasks of computing, rendering, internet connectivity, and location services will be handled by the iPhone.

This also means an even powerful iPhone can be expected to deliver the AR experience and a headset that is lighter and comfortable to wear as the major tasks will be handled by the smartphone.
