Samsung Galaxy S8 confirmed to feature face recognition

The Galaxy S8 will reportedly add an extra layer of biometric security with facial recognition, alongside the iris scanner.

South Korean technology giant Samsung is expected to unveil its next flagship on March 29 and we already have a lot of information about the device thanks to leaks and half baked online reports. Now a new online report claims that the device will feature facial recognition.

The Galaxy S8 will reportedly add an extra layer of biometric security with facial recognition, alongside the iris scanner. “Due to some limits of iris scanning such as speed and accuracy, we have decided to add facial recognition to the Galaxy S8,” the Samsung official stated. “With a face scanner, it will take less than 0.01 seconds to unlock the phone,” he reportedly added.

The upcoming rumoured iPhone Edition is also said to feature the 3D sensing front camera with facial recognition options. The iPhone could also undergo a design overhaul and Apple can remove the home button from the front panel, while fingerprint scanning technology might be incorporated into the display. But the company is also expected to launch iPhone 7s and 7s Plus, with roughly the same design elements as its predecessors.

Samsung will be using a larger 5.8-inch display for the Galaxy S8, while a 6.2-inch screen on the Galaxy S8+. The smartphone will also see the debut of Samsung’s own virtual assistant ‘Bixby’ and DeX station that allows the device to provide PC-like functionality.

The Galaxy S8 will be announced on March 29 and go on sale on April 28, after the launch date was previously delayed one week.
