5 WhatsApp features to change your chatting experience

The Facebook-owned instant messaging app is working on new features that will enhance your chat experience.

WhatsApp, the world’s most popular instant messaging platform is currently at war with an Indian high court over its users’ anonymity. While this bit of news is making headlines; behind the scenes, the company is working on several new features that will not just enhance your chatting experience, but change it for the better as well.

Forward label

WhatsApp has recently rolled out a ‘frequently forwarded’ feature for its clients in India and now, they will be adding a special double arrow icon next to these forwarded messages. WhatsApp says that it will notify users if and when they are sending these frequently forwarded messages to others. This new icon will show up when WhatsApp detects that a message has been forwarded over five times. WhatsApp states that they will truncate long text messages such as chain messages.

Voice messages can be previewed

Arguably, this is one of the most anticipated features and with it; WhatsApp will enable iOS users to play a voice message from the notification screen. As of now, this feature is still under development and is a part of the early test versions of WhatsApp on iPhones. WhatsApp is expected to launch a stable version of this feature in the near future.

WhatsApp multi-platform

Cross-platform support

Another highly anticipated feature is the multi-platform support which will enable users to run WhatsApp on multiple devices simultaneously. The feature will be for the iPad and will enable users to use it without uninstalling it from their smartphone. Reports suggest that users will be able to use the same account on an iPad as well as an Android. With this feature, users will also get native support for PCs. As of now, you can use WhatsApp on a PC by screen-mirroring it.

WhatsApp Dark mode

Dark Mode

Although Android Q and iOS 13 will come with native support for dark mode, WhatsApp is also believed to be working on its own version of this feature. With this feature, using WhatsApp on the dark mode will reduce eye strain and it will follow in the footsteps of popular apps such as Chrome, YouTube and Google Maps.

Group Invites

WhatsApp is also working on a feature that enables users blocking others from adding them to a group. To enable this feature, you can head on over to the in-app privacy menu, and change the settings to either Nobody’, ‘Everyone’ or ‘My Contacts’. Those you select Nobody will get a request to join a group.
