Fortnite Battle Royale Season 4 review: A very popular Fortnite

Fortnite Battle Royale Season 4 refines the game with bug fixes and UI improvements.

Fortnite Battle Royale is the most popular game in the world right now. Its latest numbers were reported back in January, which were already at an astonishing figure of 45 million. Since then, its success seems to have been exponentially increased with the launch on iOS and non-sponsored promotions by famous celebrities and athletes.

If you’re not familiar with Fortnite, it is a Battle Royale game where 100 players, either solo or in teams of different sizes, drop down on an island and only the last remaining team/player wins the game. Players gather material, weapons, shields, health packs and so on as they make their way to a safe zone marked by a circle. A storm starts developing over time and covers anything that is outside of this safe zone. The safe zone circle is randomly selected at regular intervals, till the point where nothing on the map is safe anymore. The Season 4 update for Fortnite was made available last week and we look at some of the changes they have made to the game.

After months of teasing, the meteor has finally crashed and left its mark on the world. The left side of the map was completely revamped in the previous season, but this time only one location has seen massive changes. Dusty Depot has been obliterated, with a massive crater and a research base of sort is taking its place. This is the only area where players can find Hop Rocks, a brand new item that increases the height of their jump. There are other areas also hit by the meteor, but without any significant changes.

Risky Reels is a brand new area located in the top right corner of the map, next to Wailing Woods. It is pretty much a standard squared lot with a small crater in the middle surrounded by a bunch of cars, fences and a few buildings. If you generally land in that corner of the map, Risky Reels might be ideal due to its closeness to the centre of the map, thereby making it easier to get into a safe zone. As expected, the battle pass includes new skins, emotes, gliding trails, pick axes and so on. There are more additions such as spray paints or the ability to destroy objects in the small island before the game starts, but nothing that impacts gameplay.

Fortnite Battle Royale Season 4 refines the game with bug fixes and UI improvements, but only makes small changes to the map, especially when compared to previous season.
