Microsoft working on new Windows 10 mobile phone

Microsoft is allegedly planning a mobile reboot that would include an overhaul of the Windows 10 Mobile.

Microsoft is allegedly planning a mobile reboot that would include an overhaul of the Windows 10 Mobile, as well as a new smartphone that would bring the company back in the smartphone business and close to its contemporaries.

While the software push would be based on the Composable Shell, or CShell, which represents a common shell for all Windows devices, the hardware strategy looks in an advanced stage.

There are still a lot of unknown details, and a mobile-type device could mean either a tablet or a smartphone. But it is most likely that Microsoft would bring a smartphone to the table since the current hardware push doesn’t align with tablets.

Alex Kipman is reported to be the head for the development of the new smartphone. Kipman also heads the HoloLens project, so this could be an indication that Microsoft is betting bit on AI for its future phone.

There’s a good chance the new device runs Windows 10 on ARM and be based on CShell, though Sams claims that at this point, the new shell is extremely buggy and Microsoft still has a lot of work to do.

Although the device seems to be almost ready for the launch, there are many aspects that Microsoft would try to improve before giving it the green light, meaning that the device could hit the shelves in 2018.
