Conan Exiles: Room for improvement

Survival games are a dime a dozen these days and Conan Exiles is the latest to hit the market.

Survival games are a dime a dozen these days and Conan Exiles is the latest to hit the market. While initially the game seemed exciting, now that I finally have my hands on it, I must say it is rather underwhelming. The first important thing for any online game is the stability of your services and Conan Exiles has a lot of work to do with crashing clients and server time outs leaving players across the globe, especially in India frustrated. Even the server browser doesn’t work too well making.

In terms of gameplay Conan Exiles promised a lot with a slavery system, a religion mechanic with massive, violent gods and battles. However it can take forever just to get there and I’m not sure everyone is up for that grind. While games in the genre always present you with a struggle to survive and build up your arsenal, Conan Exiles is that and then some. Tagging along with other players or friends might make the journey a little easier. The one positive I found was the fact that you can choose pvp, pve and mixed servers and can even host locally on your on PC for friends.

Gameplay is very clunky. The game is in early access but that’s hardly an excuse when you’ve charged people money, and the fact that games like Rust still blow Conan Exiles out of the water. The inclusion of Nvidia Ansel does add that extra bit of fun to the game being able to create 360, HDR and stereo screenshots and all, but the core gameplay still needs a fair amount of improvement. At the end of the day the game still needs to be playable but most importantly fun.
