Hyderabad: IT associations are now increasingly relying on local WhatsApp groups to share live traffic information in the city.
Each association in the IT sector now has several groups exclusively for sharing traffic information during peak hours.
TITA president Mr Sundeep Kumar Makthala said that whenever someone gets stuck in a jam, he or she posts the developments immediately on the group, so that others are aware of the jam, live. “Meanwhile, others suggest alternatives (routes) if available.
“Almost everyone, from a class IV employee working in IT companies to software professionals, check Google Maps before starting for office or home to check real-time traffic,” he said.
Mr K. Koushik, an IT professional from Oracle, said that besides IT associations, employees from particular localities were also maintaining Whatsapp groups.
“I come from Taranagar in Serilingampally. We have an exclusive group comprising about 50 software engineers from HUDA Colony, Chanda-nagar, Kanukunta, BHEL and Vemana Colony. Besides them, there are another 30 techies from the Patancheru area, Ramachandrapuram and Tellapur.
“We use this group to share traffic info and also for car-pooling or bike-pooling,” he said.
