Apple cuts prices of its accessories

Apple has reportedly slashed the prices of its peripherals and connectors

Apple has announced about cutting down on the prices of their dongles. This means the dongles for the USB C-type ports are now a lot cheaper for the MacBook Pro. However this is a limited period offer and will run through the end of the year.

Apple also lowered the prices of the new LG displays announced last week by 25 percent. The LG UltraFine 5K display will cost $974 (Rs 65,059) when it becomes available in December, while on the other hand the LG UltraFine 4K display will cost $524 (Rs 35,000) through the end of the year.

The new MacBook Pros which were revealed last week — Apple had removed the traditional USB and other ports and replaced it with USB-C. This move had caused a hue and cry among users because it meant that people had to buy dongles to use their old equipment, or even plug in their iPhone 7(s) into the new MacBooks.

The Touch Bar, Apple’s first major update for the MacBook in over four years is one of the major design changes for the new MacBook Pros. A favourite among creative professionals but the recent major updates of ditching traditional connectors could cause it lose some customers.

Apple has slashed the prices for the dongles by up to 52 percent. Previously retailing at $19 (Rs 1270), it will now be available for $9 (Rs 600). Apple also lowered its prices of USB-C VGA multiport adapter and the USB-C digital AV multiport adapter, were cut to $49 (Rs 3273) from $69 (Rs 4600).

“We recognize that many users, especially pros, rely on legacy connectors to get work done today and they face a transition,” Apple said in a statement. “We want to help them move to the latest technology and peripherals, as well as accelerate growth of this new ecosystem. Through the end of the year, we are reducing prices on all USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 peripherals we sell, as well as the prices on Apple’s USB-C adapters and cables.”
