Windows 10 is popular than Mac, says Apple
Cupertino based iPhone maker has just admitted that Windows 10 is at least four times more widely adopted than it very own Mac. In an interview with TechCrunch, Apple said there are 100 million active users and explained that this particular business continues to be one of the most profitable for the company.
While Apple is more or less proud of the way Mac unit is performing these days, the figures that the company provided do not help particularly other than acknowledge Microsoft’s total dominance in the desktop market.
Apple’s figures of 100 million active Mac users confirms there are at least 4 times more users running Windows 10 out there, with Microsoft announcing last September that its most recent operating system was active on over 400 million devices. This data was for September, so this means there is a good chance that there are many more Windows 10 users out there at this point.
According to industry estimates, Windows as a whole is active on approximately 1.5 billion devices, and if these figures are accurate, Apple’s Mac has absolutely no chance to get close to its rival anytime soon.
Speaking in terms of market share, Windows is winning in the PC world with absolute domination, with Windows 7 still number one — running on nearly 50 per cent of the PCs out there. Windows 10 is second with 25 per cent, while Windows 8.1 and even the 15-year old Windows XP are still among the top desktop platforms.
But also worth noting here are the figures provided by Apple itself, the Mac is now close to becoming a $25 billion business, even though Cupertino does not expect market share to improve too much.
For what’s it worth, Apple not planning to release new Mac Pro models this year, but upgrades are prepared for 2018, so it’ll be interesting to see how adoption improves with no releases queued up.
