Ever thought how social sites like FB, Insta and twitter can actually help your kids?

Kids are often stopped to use Social Media, mainly because of the peer influence.

The world today has gone digital, and its needless to say that it has witnessed a shift in paradigm since the inception of digitalisation. It might be right to say that technology and digitalization has changed our world for better. However, it has opened up some negative possibilities as well. Just to remind in this case, every boon, when used otherwise, can turn into a bane. So at the end it’s the decision of the humans on how to effectively use this boon of digitalization.

Digitalization has shaped another user-friendly and all-rounder platform, with “Social Media”. While it would mean “socializing on digital/virtual platforms”, it would also mean “creating new audiences and building lasting connections”, or in short, “networking”. The trend started off with Yahoo Messenger, and today new social media places are coming up in almost every decade.

If Janhavi Tibrewal, 17 years old were to describe social media, it would be “a medium to share new ideas, invite people to be a part of it, and make this world a happy place for everyone”. Janhavi has been working with Angel Xpress Foundation (AXF NGO) for almost a year now, starting off with teaching English and Mathematics subjects to the AXF kids. Her generosity attracted her towards the kids, and she made every single attempt to beautify the lives of these kids in any manner possible.

She considers social media to be her “happy place”, because she gets back all the happiness and awareness that she gives to her audience. Facebook helped her a lot in ideating her thoughts into reality, as she received immense support for her social causes. This all started with Janhavi organizing a bake sale to help sponsor a child’s education for a year. Obviously, the awareness of this effort was put across on her Facebook.

Little did she know that her one Facebook post could bring such huge support to that one big idea she was marching on. That idea was to “celebrate one birthday for all AXF kids at the centre”. Just one Facebook post, elaborating the idea, inviting contributions and participation, and Janhavi could crack her efforts into positive results. Seeing her efforts pulling up really well, the date (and the deadline) was finally decided; And that’s all. The AXF kids got huge support, love and happiness from across the city and the country, as they celebrated their birthday with much fanfare.

Ever thought how Social Media channels like Facebook, Instagram or Twitter can help the kids learn and grow? Focusing on, why social media? Primarily because it’s an easy source of information “on your fingertips”. Learning through Social Media has become easier and flexible, because experts have shifted their knowledge-sharing base to these platforms. So if the kids want to take some life-lessons from wise monks like Jay Shetty or Gaur Gopal Das, or want to learn about new hobby-learning classes or so, they are right there on Facebook. Instagram is a popular photo and video-sharing app, so kids can make great use of it, by posting about their hobbies, like painting, photography, travel or Instagram-organized events. For Twitter, kids can express their opinions in short sentences. Or even share the opinions of others (mostly famous personalities of their choice).

We won’t even deny the fact that kids are often stopped to use Social Media, mainly because of the peer influence. Parents are concerned about the influence on their child, and that makes them reluctant to encourage its use. The concerns are true on their part, but they must not forget, that this reluctance will make them laidback in risk-taking which can eventually hamper their brain development. Kids must need to learn everything that exists in this world, so that they are aware about them, and don’t get trapped in the pretext of its illiteracy.

Social Media started off with one purpose, but is now opening up to many new horizons to explore and settle with. Marketing and branding tactics are easier to execute on Social Media, as the influential power here is much more. With the rising trends in Social Media, the kids can adapt to them and learn various new ideas and world of possibilities that comes along with it.
