Amazon Kindle guy goes to Google to develop Pixel
Alphabet Inc’s Google on October 3 took a closer step to stimulate its growth in the hardware industry with the hire of Amazon’s David Foster, who developed Kindle and Kindle tablet.
Foster is joining Google’s hardware division as a VP of product engineering, reported The Information.
According to recent reports, Google has already decided to drop the former ‘Nexus’ branding and is ready to unveil the new Pixel-branded smartphone—Pixel and Pixel XL, today at an event in San Francisco.
Foster’s role will help kick-start Google’s hardware technology, as the company appears to be more focused to manufacture its own smartphones, instead of only targeting software to run on their devices.
Foster is an experienced technology executive specialized in developing and managing hardware products. At Amazon, Foster was in charge of all Amazon Lab126’s team working to handle development of products like Echo, Kindle and Fire TV. He has also been a senior director at Apple from 1998 to 2004, after which he joined Microsoft as a general manger for hardware group.
