HP accidentally sells $3,000 laptop for $2, dishonours sale

All the prices were jumbled up; most prices were listed much lesser than the actual product cost leading to a large number of orders.

In a recent incident US-based HP accidentally sold a $2600 priced laptop at just Rs 140 but said that it cannot honour the deal as it was a listing problem on its online UK portal.

According to a media report, the computer maker had to take down their UK website over the last weekend to fix an error pertaining to website listing.

All the prices were jumbled up; most prices were listed much lesser than the actual product cost leading to a large number of orders.

One of the many devices sold in confusion was a HP ZBook workstation device which originally costs approximately $3,000 (approximately 2 lakhs) but was sold for only $2.10 (Rs 140 approx).

The company in an official statement accepted that there was a processing error as products were wrongly priced but has refused to honour the orders. However, a consumers’ rights group has said the HP had every right to cancel the orders.

It explained that retailers have the powers to call off a deal in case of an ‘honest mistake by the company’. However, the angry customers expressed their frustration on Twitter after HP said it won’t honour the deals.

However, ‘unconfirmed reports’ suggested that one lucky customer may actually have managed to pull off an amazing deal.
