Samsung's Note 7 resurrected as Galaxy Note Fan Edition

Apart from the notorious battery unit and software, everything else is pure Galaxy Note 7.

When the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 developed lethal snags last year, fans and owners of the device were extremely sad to see it recalled. Samsung had a hard time recalling all of the units, even though they released updates to make the smartphone useless. Samsung promised that they will be bringing back the phone for fans with a safer battery and it looks like they have stayed true to the promise. The Galaxy Note 7 is back 'without a bang' with two tiny issues – it’s called the Galaxy Note Fan Edition and is only available in Korea for now.

The Note Fan Edition is made of unused parts from the Note 7 bin along with salvaged parts from the recalled units. However, Samsung has gone for a smaller 3200mAh battery which they claim to test in their eight-point rigorous battery test. This should eradicate the battery heating issue and make it a safer phone to use. Apart from the new battery, the Note Fan Edition ditches the Samsung branding at the front to adapt to the newer Samsung design language.

It also gains a new Galaxy Note Fan Edition logo at the back and runs on the latest Android Nougat with Bixby installed. Rest apart, everything else is essentially the 2016 Galaxy Note 7. So you get the 1440 x 2560 pixels 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with curved edges to the sides, the S Pen tucked inside the IP68 water and dust proof body, a 2.4GHz octa-core Exynos 8890 chipset accompanied by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It also has the commendable 12 MP f/1.7 26mm PDAF with OIS rear camera.

Samsung’s intention is to sell 400,000 units of the Note Fan Edition in Korea before deciding about other markets. If you are a die-hard fan of the Note 7 and want to relive the doomed handset’s experience, you can have the Note Fan Edition from 7th of July in Black Onyx, Blue Coral, Gold Platinum, and Silver Titanium for 699,600 Won (Rs 39,500) from the Korean market.
