Next-gen iPhones rumoured to come with Apple's power management chips

It is a common trend for device manufacturers to jump into custom-built components for their products. Qualcomm makes its own core design in the form of Kryo cores, Samsung makes its own chipsets in the form Exynos and Apple makes its own A-series chipsets as well. Lately, Apple has gone ahead and started taking control over most internal components in an iPhone and if the rumours are true, then Apple is destined to manufacture power management chips for the iPhone pretty soon.

A Japanese newspaper Nikkei has reported that the Cupertino giant is considering to reduce reliance on third-party component manufacturers in the coming days. Therefore, they will start manufacturing their own power management chips for all future iPhone models so as to gain greater control over integration of hardware and software. Dialog Semiconductors currently manufactures the power management chips for all iPhone models presently available in the market.

Apple was in the news a few months ago for a similar kind of incident involving another third-party component supplier — UK’s Imagination Technologies. Apple delivered a notification to Imagination Technologies earlier this year, citing a contract termination for manufacturing GPU chips for all iPhone models within a timeframe of 15 months to two years.

Right now, this is just a rumour, which is why we look forward to Apple making any sort of official announcements in the coming months.
