Daimler invests heavily in high-end Blacklane, an Uber rival
Blacklane – an Uber rival, allows riders to connect with licensed chauffeurs through an app, a website or partners like Expedia. They primarily target the kind of audience that is global – travel oriented and would prefer a single app that works in various countries.
Just when Blacklane was looking to expand into newer markets especially Asia and Middle East, Daimler discovered the chain and decided to invest in it. The former received an eight-figure sum from Daimler to achieve those goals.
Blacklane employs around 200 people at the moment. It is available in more than 200 cities across 50 countries, including 400 airports. It is already in partnership with Expedia and Booking.com and it’s also planning on rolling out a less expensive version of the ‘black car’ experience.
