Apple has paid a hefty price to get where it is today

Apple recently announced that its global developer community has earned over $70 billion since its App Store launch back in 2008.

Cupertino tech-giant Apple launched its App store back in 2008. Lucky is the global developer community that has been a part of the store as the firm just announced that the former has earned over $70 billion since its launch. The company further confirmed that in the past 12 months alone, downloads have grown over 70 per cent. It was also noted that apps in the gaming and entertainment categories managed to bring in the most revenue.

“People everywhere love apps and our customers are downloading them in record numbers,” stated Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of World-wide Marketing. “Seventy billion dollars earned by developers is simply mind-blowing. We are amazed at all the great new apps our developers create and can’t wait to see them again next week at our Worldwide Developers Conference,” he added.

This news comes ahead of the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference scheduled to take place next week.

It is widely believed that the revenue is also greatly driven by the In-app purchases and content subscription services like Netflix and Spotify. The company also affirmed that the photo and video app store category has witnessed a growth of almost 90 per cent in the past year.

“Based on our analysis of in-app revenue — not inclusive of advertising revenue —nearly double the number of publishers made their first $1 million in annual revenue last year on the US App Store compared to Google Play,” he said.
