Fortnite basking in glory

The latest addition is a massive boombox that breaks down any structure; something that is certainly to be of use to weaker builders.

In the battle of the battle royales, one game stands head and shoulders above the competition thanks to its regular content updates and influx of new and fun modes; I’m of course talking about Fortnite.

Epic’s pivot to battle royale from their PvE formula changed the balance of power in the gaming world and has shaped a generation of games to come. One of the main reasons behind Fortnite’s success is a constantly changing world and new content. While some people might argue that repurposing the same map season after season is lazy, I personally feel it’s quite amazing to maintain the continuity while changing things up every few weeks.

While Epic throws in major events every few months like adding snow, turning a section into a dessert, adding a teleporting mountain and whatnot; they keep things fresh between those periods with smaller content updates like new items and weapons. However there content isn’t restricted to just in game items, we regularly get new playlists and game modes that are a huge part of what keeps Fortntie fresh every few weeks.

The latest addition is a massive boombox that breaks down any structure; something that is certainly to be of use to weaker builders. Plus they have timed events like a special new years event on December 31 that dropped a giant disco ball for the whole server to dance to. PUBG on the other hand has a much different approach to content with its test server introducing new guns items, and of course maps before they make their way tot the live server; however PUBG’s cycle is much slower given the scale of the new content. While they introduce new guns and tweaks; the bigger updates only come about once every 3 to 6 months with the new maps. The latest Map Vikendi takes PUBG to a snowy terrain with a host of new weapons and much higher drop rates for better items.

We’ve also got new vehicles and an increased emphasis on snipers. While the snow map has certainly helped PUBG nearly double its playerbase, the wait for new content will almost certainly see it lose a lot of them over the next few months. This is also due in no small part to the massive hacker problem PUBG faces; something that isn’t as rampant in Fortnite. Hopefully 2019 will see both these battle royales give great content to enjoy, year while we wait for new AAA titles.
